I founded TL;DR Design to demystify the interior design process - to deliver quick, effective tips for people who just want to start designing.

About Kayla Gephart
Background
Sometimes our paths make little sense while we’re on them. But looking back, I realize that my past professions have prepared me to do exactly this — simplify the interior design process for anyone looking to create a uniquely beautiful home.
Formal Art Training
I’ve worked in museums and galleries throughout the country: artist, art restorer, collections assistant, research and development, assistant curator, educator, curriculum specialist, docent, galleriest — I’ve done it and (in most cases) loved it. Along the way, I’ve developed an eye for all things aesthetic.
The Educator
After earning degrees in art and business, I jumped on an unexpected opportunity to teach high school math to students in Hawai’i, which led to a career writing and implementing curriculum in school districts across the country. Teaching both children and adults over the past 12+ years — and a graduate degree in education theory —has made me an expert in simplifying the complex.
Origins of TL;DR Design
Design is complex in that it’s equally a creative and pragmatic endeavor: to envision a space takes artistic foresight and to actualize it while considering budget and functionality requires practical decisiveness. Enter the reality that this work is usually done in the background of an active life filled to the brim with responsiblities, and it’s no wonder that your bedroom has remained unfinished for the last 2 years… or more
Now as a busy mom, I’ve lived through the challenges of digesting endless design blogs and trying to make moves within time constraints. I’ve helped friends, families, and clients quickly create spaces that they love. My hope is to share my learnings in clear, actionable, and time-saving ways.
